VOCALIST · TEACHER · SONGWRITER
Daniel Fields is a versatile performer and voice instructor whose repertoire spans classical, contemporary, jazz, rock and R&B. A champion of contemporary opera, he's sung numerous roles with Central New York's Society for New Music—Silas in Charles Lupia's Home Burial, Abel in Charles Fussell's The Astronaut's Tale, Henry Snibblesworth in Steven Stucky's The Classical Style, the Student in Michael Torke's Strawberry Fields, Tezcatlipoca in Judith Sainte Croix's How Music Came to the Earth, among others.
In the traditional repertoire, Daniel has performed Lysander in Britten's A Midsummer Night's Dream and Pelléas in Debussy's Pelléas et Mélisande with the University of Southern California, and Alfred in Strauss's Die Fledermaus with Syracuse University. Most recently, he covered Dr. Caius in Verdi's Falstaff with Geneva Light Opera.
As a recitalist, he's appeared in chamber works ranging from Bach's Coffee Cantata to Alex Burtzo's Many Worlds. His orchestral engagements include performances of Schubert's Magnificat and Mass No. 2, as well as Mozart's Coronation Mass with the Roman Catholic Diocese of Syracuse. In the jazz and contemporary voice worlds, he regularly collaborates with the International Musicians League, Syracuse's Queer Artist Collective, and CNY Jazz.
Daniel began his research into the intersection of mindfulness, yoga, dance, and singing while earning his Bachelor's in Vocal Performance at Syracuse University and his Master's in Vocal Arts & Opera at USC Thornton. He continues to study these fields, co-designing workshops to share his insights, serving as a guest presenter at Syracuse University and Hamilton College, and—in 2022—helping over 1,000 students activate their throat chakras at the Awakened Life Global Unity Gathering.
Rooted in the study of bel canto, Daniel's teaching integrates somatic awareness and motor learning principles from yoga and mindfulness. He helps students cultivate vocal freedom through alignment of body, mind, and spirit.
"As a performer and teacher, I draw on the historic bel canto tradition and the practices of yoga and mindfulness to support freedom and transformation through the voice. My work is rooted in presence, using the voice to build emotional connection, communicate with clarity, and create meaningful experiences for audiences and students alike."

Classical music and Opera were my gateway into singing. I have sung a variety of works in the repertory ranging from Baroque to Romantic to 20th century pieces, as well as contemporary premieres. My scholarship and development in the classical and operatic styles is central to my musical identity.
Singing in the jazz and pop idioms brings me so much joy! It is a thrill to get folks dancing and singing to the tunes they love. Whether you want to listen to disco, standards or today's favorites, I got you covered.
I am a self-taught songwriter and lyricist. My original music has influences ranging from Rock to Jazz, R&B and Classical genres. I approach writing through a poetically driven stream of consciousness. The genres vary from tune to tune. My compositions reflect my musical DNA.
"Dan is an incredible singer, performer, and a genuinely amazing man. Dan sang for an event I hosted and all the guests (including me) were starstruck! I can't recommend Dan Fields enough!"

My intention is to teach with clarity: using techniques rooted in vocology and motor-learning theory, I break down the complex science of the voice into principles you can apply on your own. In each session, you'll leave with three prescriptive exercises tailored to your current vocal challenges that empower you to take ownership of your voice.
My intention is to provide comprehensive tools to support the voice: singing is a unique form of music making, using the body as the instrument and imagination and emotions as fuel. I draw on my Kripalu 200-hr yoga training, JourneyDance© practice, and meditation to heighten your awareness and master mind, body, and emotion, empowering you to sing with confidence and ease.
My intention is for every lesson to uplift you—both as a singer and as a person. Unlocking your voice takes dedication and heart, and making music should feel freeing and joyful. I blend playful exploration with functional techniques to serve you optimally.
"I was an elementary vocal music teacher for 30 years. He's the only voice teacher I've ever had (out of 6) that explained things to me in way that made it very logical, simple, and understandable. I've been improving steadily and rapidly. I'm about to turn 65 years old soon and am regaining a youthfulness to my voice that I haven't had since I was 18!"

This opening essay introduces a series reflecting on Vocal Wisdom by Giovanni Battista Lamperti, a book that profoundly shaped my path as a singer and teacher. I share the story of how I came upon it and explore the commonalities it shares with yogic philosophy. Both singing and yoga, I've found, are not about becoming something new, but about revealing the truth of who we are.
